SSI LImits
Since SSI is an income based program that is designed to help needy disabled persons obtain the money for their medical and personal care, there are set federal limits to how much someone can own/earn before their benefits are cut off.
"The federal benefit rate represents both the SSI income limit and the maximum federal monthly SSI payment. In 2018, the limit is $750 per month for individuals and $1,125 for couples. To qualify for SSI, your countable monthly income cannot exceed these amounts".
It is surprising easy for you to exceed this limit. Many applicants are forced to close accounts or spend the money quickly if they are above the limit for SSI. They are usually given a few days to spend the money and show receipt for use of that money to have their case reopened.
