Los Angeles has had many LPS conservatorship mentoring meetings but San Diego county is lacking LPS conservatorship classes for residents and caregivers. We are looking to see if NAMI or some regional division can start up classes for LPS conservatorship. We used to have some for San Diego but they were dropped or made private and RSVP only. We believe that LPS conservatorship meetings should be made (1) public, (2) accessible and publicized so that people can find them in time, (3) and more frequent if possible so if someone misses one they do not have to wait a whole year.
Additionally, we are strongly advocating and seeking persons specifically from San Diego so they can speak on San Diego's specific local rules as LPS laws vary greatly between counties (due to the Bronzan-Mccorquodale act, California Realignment Act of 1992). By having NAMI San Diego sponsor such an event, we will be able to create a LPS conservatorship class that is individually tailored to address the unique needs and circumstances of San Diego county's mental health system.

what we are proposing
We are looking to reach mental health specialists, conservatorship clinicians, and or attorneys affiliated with San Diego's conservatorship and legal system to see if they are willing to host a LPS conservatorship class for San Diego. San Diego conservatorship classes are currently private or nonexistent. We are in need of classes to be open and public for those who are either seeking LPS conservatorship or need assistance with a current one. This class would host several guest speakers and take place over zoom. There would be several key topics addressed with a Q and A at the end for unanswered questions.
If all proceeds as planned, it would be in everyone's best interest if someone from NAMI San Diego would endorse the meeting as their recognition would increase public awareness of this educational event. If this trial event goes well then there may be future events planned throughout the year.

who to contact for questions about educational events/speakers
Alone this can seem like a difficult task, but with the right connections we can get a San Diego LPS conservatorship mentor meeting out there for those in need. For persons who have contacts with San Diego NAMI, Jewish Family services, and/or other patient's rights groups, reaching out to a coordinator or program manager can get progresses on expanding involuntary treatment and LPS conservatorship educational programs.
Below is a list of some persons who may have knowledge and/or connections about LPS conservatorship meetings
As always be respectful. People are very busy so if you reach out do not overload their emails with requests and do not call unless it is a grave emergency.
