Alpine Special Treatment Centers (ASTCI)
Alpine is one of the main IMDs that accepts San Diego Conservatees.
Alpine is located at 2120 Alpine Blvd, Alpine, CA 91901.
Alpine takes only LPS Conservatees. They do not accept walk in patients. They are not an acute psychiatric facility meaning that they do not take acute emergencies. The patient will need to go to the ER if they are experiencing an emergency.
Alpine has 125 beds that they contract with counties such as San Diego and Los Angeles.
Their beds cost around $270-$310 per day. Beds are same sex but the "cottages" are coed meaning that men and women are on the same unit.
Wait time for Alpine can be up to two months. At any given time there are at least twenty patients waiting to be placed in an IMD facility.
Alpine is a closed locked facility meaning that the conservatees inside cannot “leave” when they want. There are locked doors and gates around the facility to prevent AWOL patients. There is a progression of program activities in which the patient can progress through to reach discharge readiness. There are craft programs, music programs, exercise activities, therapy groups, and monthly psychiatrist visits. With medication adherence, willingness to participate in program, "good behaviour", and taking care of ADLs the patient will progress through the program.
It is important to note that ASTCI does participate in the use of restraints. This means that Alpine can use chemical restraints and four point restraints if patients are acting aggressive and placing themselves and others at risk.
Dr. Brian P Miller is the treating psychiatrist. He visits anywhere from once to twice a month.
Call for more information regarding visitation, but Alpine may allow limited visitation during COVID.
