After a case is approved, the next thing the recipient receives is a letter in the mail from the SSA. The letter is called an award letter. The award letter spells out the general basics about the claimant's case.
The monthly amount in SSI
The day of the month that the benefits arrive
Any amount of back pay the recipient is due
The date that the check for past due benefits will be sent
The conditions for which the SSI was approved
It can take around one to three months from the date of approved to get an award letter.
